The way something is presented will alter the way it is sold.

Just a brief opening post, something I feel is quite important for all image makers. The presentation of whatever it is that you are photographing, certainly will affect the way it is acknowledged and viewed.

In this case a box of chocolates. We all know what cardboard is like - it has a mind of its own. It deteriorates quite quickly and can prove a problem when photographing.

I decided in this case to use lighting, to present the chocolates to a higher status. Using dramatic lighting infuses a sense of value and expense.

Placing this into retouch, I have altered all the edges, only slightly, but to define the product more clearly. The chocolates are still represented in a cardboard box, the shadows along the bottom and the texture of the top still fairly organic, yet, present the product as a quite tidy object with a value.
